Federal Pell Grant Program 84.063

Grants are available to students with financial need to help meet education expenses. Grants available for up to $2,700 per year and must be used for student’s first bachelor’s or other professional degree. Once an application is completed, the student’s financial eligibility for assistance is calculated and notifies the student of eligibility.

Scholarships are available to exceptionally able students who show promise of continued academic achievement. Scholarships for up to 4 years to study at any institution of higher education are available through grants to the states. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and are renewable. The advantage of many of these programs is that most people don’t even know they exist, so your competition will be less. Each state has different requirements for their various programs. Some programs are exclusive to residents of a particular state, whereas others have no limitations. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has identified people with disabilities as one of the primary populations experiencing worst-case housing needs.

In response, ABILITY Awareness created the ABILITY House project. Built in partnership with Habitat for Humanity affiliates, each ABILITY House is an accessible home built for a family where one or more members have health conditions or disabilities. Additionally, the ABILITY House project reaches out to volunteers with health conditions and disabilities to help build the homes, demonstrating to the community their skills, talents and potential as volunteers and employees.

“The ABILITY House will remove the barriers that keep people with disabilities from owning their own homes,” said Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity International, at the launch of the first ABILITY House. “This build will send a powerful message: People with disabilities can make a house into a home.”

Free $40 Coupons for Analog TV Converter Box

Did you know that at midnight on February 17, 2009, all U.S. TV broadcasts will be in digital format? This means that if you have analog TV and receive TV signals via an antenna, you either need to switch to digital TV or get a TV converter–or else you can’t watch any more shows, nothing at all, after February 17, 2009.
To help millions of American households make the transition, the federal government launched the TV Converter Box Coupon Program. Through this program, your household can request for up to two coupons, worth $40 each, for use in buying a TV converter box if you do not want to replace your analog TV.
These coupons can be used at participating retailers to pay part of the converter box cost. You pay for the remaining balance, which may range from $10 to $30. Eligible TV converter boxes may cost between $50 to $70.

Program Description
The US Health & Human Services Dept. has launched the WIC Program (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance to Women, Infants and Children) which aims to provide Total health care at No Cost to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to 5 years of age.

To be fully eligible for the WIC Program, applicants must be determined by a health professional, at no cost, to be at nutritional risk (i.e., have certain medical-based or diet-based risk conditions).

General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a breastfeeding and postpartum woman, infant or child up to 5 years of age and: (1) are individually determined by a health professional to be at nutrition risk; and, (2) meet an income standard, or are determined automatically income eligible. A person who participates or has family members who participate in certain other benefit programs, such as the Food Stamp Program, Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, automatically meets the income eligibility requirement.

HUD has long recognized the important role that downpayment assistance through secondary financing plays in providing affordable housing opportunities. There are three categories of DAP assistance providers:

1) Nonprofit and Nonprofit Instrumentality of Government DAPs: Nonprofits and Nonprofit Instrumentalities of Government that provide DAPs in the form of a lien in conjunction with an FHA first mortgage lien, must be approved by HUD. HUD maintains a Roster of those Nonprofits and Nonprofit Instrumentalities of Government that have been approved. See Mortgagee Letter 02-01 for more information on the approval process. 2) Government Entity DAPs: No approval is required for Government Entities that provide secondary financing in the form of a lien in conjunction with an FHA first mortgage lien. HUD does not maintain a list of Government Entity DAP providers. Mortgage lenders are responsible for assuring that a Government Entity DAP meets all appropriate FHA requirements, including those contained in Mortgagee Letters 94-2, 02-22, and HUD Handbook 4155.1 Rev-5, Paragraph 1-13A.

3) Gift Programs: FHA does not "approve" down payment assistance programs in the form of gifts administered by charitable organizations (i.e., nonprofits). Mortgage lenders are responsible for assuring that the gift to the homebuyer from the charitable organization meets the appropriate FHA requirements and the transfer of funds is properly documented. See HUD Handbook 4155.1 REV-5, CHG-1 Paragraph 2-10 (C) and Mortgagee Letter 00-08, for further information. Those charitable organizations that comply with existing regulations and policy guidelines are permitted to give cash gifts to eligible homebuyers and do not need prior FHA approval to do so. Boghosian By this summer, the Treasury Department expects to have sent rebates to about 130 million American households. These rebates will provide eligible Americans with payments of up to $600 a person, $1,200 for couples, and $300 per child.

If you've already filed your income tax return your rebate is on the way. Even if you don't owe any income taxes you may still be eligible for a check, but you need to file a form with the IRS. And it's not too late to do so. Now, you can find out information as to how to proceed by calling your local IRS office, or go to the IRS website.

They want to make sure everyone who's eligible for a check gets one on a timely basis. This money is going to help Americans offset the high prices we're seeing at the gas pump and at the grocery store, and it will also give our economy a boost to help us pull out of this economic slowdown.
