2008 Scholarships For Minorities
Pepsi Is Helping Fund Your Education
This month Pepsi donated $1 Million in scholarship funds for minorities in the United States. The $1 Million dollar donation will be distributed across the Nation to help those who are looking for Financial Aid.
“We’re excited to present this gift of $1 million to ensure that deserving young people continue to get a chance to go to college and earn degrees — and have the opportunity to make their mark in the world.” Said Indra Nooyi, CEO and chairman of PepsiCo.
Last year, Pepsi dedicated over $8 million dollars to help students achieve their academic dreams, with $1 Million dedicated specifically to minorities.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has identified people with disabilities as one of the primary populations experiencing worst-case housing needs.
In response, ABILITY Awareness created the ABILITY House project. Built in partnership with Habitat for Humanity affiliates, each ABILITY House is an accessible home built for a family where one or more members have health conditions or disabilities. Additionally, the ABILITY House project reaches out to volunteers with health conditions and disabilities to help build the homes, demonstrating to the community their skills, talents and potential as volunteers and employees.
“The ABILITY House will remove the barriers that keep people with disabilities from owning their own homes,” said Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity International, at the launch of the first ABILITY House. “This build will send a powerful message: People with disabilities can make a house into a home.”

Free $40 Coupons for Analog TV Converter Box
Did
you know that at midnight on February 17, 2009, all U.S. TV broadcasts
will be in digital format? This means that if you have analog TV and
receive TV signals via an antenna, you either need to switch to digital
TV or get a TV converter–or else you can’t watch any more shows,
nothing at all, after February 17, 2009.
To help millions of
American households make the transition, the federal government
launched the TV Converter Box Coupon Program. Through this program,
your household can request for up to two coupons, worth $40 each, for
use in buying a TV converter box if you do not want to replace your
analog TV.
These coupons can be used at participating retailers to
pay part of the converter box cost. You pay for the remaining balance,
which may range from $10 to $30. Eligible TV converter boxes may cost
between $50 to $70.

Finding and identifying government agencies that give grants for specific purposes or in specific subject areas requires time, effort, and research. The resources on this page provide a starting point to help you do your own research.
If you are looking for funding for an existing or new for-profit business, you may encounter difficulties in finding and getting grant funding. Government grants are generally (though not always) given to non-profit organizations for programs and services that benefit the community or the public at large.
The first place you should look for government grants is the U.S. Government's Grants.gov Website. This site will enable you to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. You can also obtain information on types of grants and the government agencies that make grants. Additionally, you can sign up to receive notification of future grant opportunities. You can also take a look at the Government's Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA), which contains a listing of various Government grants and other types of assistance. Here you can get information on available grants by Topic Area or you can search the Catalog by key words and other methods. If you find a grant that interests you, make sure that you carefully read the section on Eligibility Requirements to find out if you would be qualified to apply for that particular grant.
You should also be aware that most government grants are not available year-round. That is, you can't apply for most of them at any time you please -- in general, you can apply for them only when they are announced by a Government agency. When an agency makes funds available for a grant, it places an announcement in the Federal Register which is published each weekday. Here's where you can find the Government's Recent Grant Announcements. In addition, you can search for grant announcements on Government Agency Websites.
Grants to individuals are most often given for educational support (financial aid), the arts, and various types of scientific or other research, although some agencies award grants to individuals for other purposes. You can find some information on individual grants on my Frequently Asked Questions Page.
Getting a grant is hard work. Don't be fooled by advertisements and promotions that state that you can get "free money" just by writing a letter. There is a lot of competition for grant funds. To be successful in winning a grant, you must provide the funding agency with a well-written Proposal which clearly states your objectives and sets forth a plan and budget for your activities. Grants are "free" in that you do not have to pay back the money. However, if you are awarded a grant you may be required to provide periodic progress, program evaluation, and/or financial reports to the government.
If you think that you qualify for a grant, be prepared to work for it or contract with a competent professional to assist you.

California Unclaimed Money
The State of California is holding over $3.2 billion in Unclaimed Property. These assets have been turned over to the State treasury office for safekeeping by businesses and other organizations as required by law. There is no fee to file a claim for Unclaimed Property.
Every state has unclaimed property laws which declare money, property, and other assets to be abandoned after a period of inactivity of three to five years.
Make sure you check with every state in which you have ever lived (unclaimed property is generally turned over to the state of your last address as reflected in the records of the business holding your found money, stock, etc.).
Please try using various combinations of your name in order to search for unclaimed money. Also bear in mind that there may be assets in your maiden name. If you know anyone who has ever moved or died, the state of California is probably holding unclaimed funds in their name. There is an alphabetical list of people whose last known address was in California and who are due to receive money for unclaimed property for the number of years prescribed by statute. The Unclaimed divisions have held the accounts for more than 2 years. Even if your name is not on the list, you may wish to call the Unclaimed Property Division to check if any funds are being held in your name. It is important to note that accounts held less than 2 years are not available for public inspection.
California unclaimed property or money could be in the form of funds from a dormant checking and savings accounts, un-cashed money orders, cashiers checks, mineral royalty payments, safe deposit box contents, unused gift certificates, unclaimed insurance benefits, lost cash dividends, stock, found utility deposits, unclaimed security deposits, and court deposits. California unclaimed property, which was held by another state or a company, is kept in protective custody if they could not be paid to the rightful owner. The owners last recorded state address is always taken into consideration with reference to California's unclaimed money. It is important to write down the property id number for the purpose of record keeping, if you find unclaimed property. On pressing the 'continue' button, you claim gets processed and the unclaimed property is removed f from website for public reference.
